"NOW WHEN THIS WAS NOISED ABROAD,"
Acts 2:6a
Now when this was noised abroad,
In the book of Acts chapter 2 we find the considerable empowerment of the early church.
This chapter could be easily outlined like this:
I. The Miracle Of Pentecost. (verses 1-13)
II. The Message Of Peter. (verses 14-40)
III. The Multitude Of Penitents. (verses 41-47)
It is while the physician Luke is dealing (under the direct inspiration of the Holy Spirit) with "The Miracle Of Pentecost" that a person reads a thought provoking six word phrase. (6a)
The two significant words "noised" and "abroad" mean: what one has heard and out of the area.
Evangelist Oliver B. Greene once wrote about our text: "Naturally the news of such a miracle traveled rapidly, spreading across the city and into the surrounding communities."
Friend, you and I (those that know the Lord) should serve as consecrated megaphones from the church to the cosmos!
There are three scoops (or facts) that ought to be heard outside the House of God. (All found in Acts chapter 2)
I. THE CHURCH'S SAMENESS.
A scoop that ought to be heard outside the House of God is the church's uniformity. (verse 1b) It is certainly a very sad state of affairs when the neighborhood knows all about the contentions in the church. No assembly will ever see a single soul come to Christ on its property as long as there are conflicts in that same church. (I Corinthians 10:33) The Church's Sameness!
II. THE CHURCH'S SOUND.
A scoop that ought to be heard outside the House of God is the church's unique vibrations. (verse 2) Newsflash: "The Old-Time Religion" is noisy! By the way, us preachers, let's do our job by keeping the world's music OUT of the church and the church's music IN the church! (Ephesians 5:19) The Church's Sound!
III. THE CHURCH'S SPIRIT FULLNESS.
A scoop that ought to be heard outside the House of God is the church's unction. (verse 4) This is the day of the model without the manifestation. Can you even imagine what could be accomplished for God if every member was filled to the brim with Him?!? (Ephesians 5:18) The Church's Spirit Fullness!
