"WHAT MEANETH THE NOISE OF THIS GREAT SHOUT IN THE CAMP...?"
I Samuel 4:6a

And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, what meaneth the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews?

In the book of I Samuel chapter 4 we find the conquest of Israel by the Philistines.

This chapter could be effortlessly outlined like this:

I. The Defeat. (verses 1-10)
II. The Death. (verses 11-18)
III. The Departure. (verses 19-22)

It is while the unknown writer is dealing (under the direct inspiration of the Holy Spirit) with "The Defeat" that a person hears the noise that still echoes back from the base of the Hebrews when the ark of the covenant arrived there. (vs. 6)

Never forget: The foes of God knew that God had shown up in the outpost of the friends of God because they heard the SHOUT of the friends of God.

Friend, you and I (those of us that are saved) need to let those outside know, God is inside the "camp"!
There are three things the believer should make noise about in the spiritual "outpost" that the unbeliever will hear outside the spiritual "outpost".

I. WHEN SINNERS ARE SAVED.
A thing the believer should get loud about in the outpost is when sinners are reached. (Acts 2:47) There is a golden nugget of truth from the gold mine of this narrative. The adoration of Christ always brings about additions to the church. There is a serious problem when a library is louder at midnight than some churches when it is announced that a soul has been saved. (Luke 15:10) When sinners are saved!

II. WHEN STRAYS ARE SALVAGED.
A thing the believer should get loud about in the outpost is when strays are rescued. (Luke 15:32) Maybe more prodigals would come back if they knew that they would get the father's smooch and support instead of the elder brother's suspicion and scorn. Believers that are really spiritual give others a hand up and not a foot down. (Gal. 6:1) When strays are salvaged!

III. WHEN SERMONS ARE SOUNDED.
A thing the believer should get loud about in the outpost is when sermons are reverberated. (Acts 8:5) Enthusiasm and excitement in the pulpit will always produce the same thing in the pew. For the child of God, listening to preaching was never intended to be just a "spectator sport"! (Neh. 8:6) When sermons are sounded!
