NEWSLETTER May - June 2013 Volume 159 WHY I REFUSE TO RELEASE MY "SWORD" ANY TIME SOON! II Samuel 23:10 He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil. In the book of II Samuel chapter 23 we find King David's mighty men. This chapter could be effortlessly outlined like this: I. The Song Of David. (verses 1-7) II. The Soldiers Of David. (verses 8-39) It is while the unknown writer is dealing (under the direct inspiration of the Holy Spirit) with "The Soldiers of David" that a person reads a heart-moving seven word phrase about the mighty man Eleazar. (verse 10) This was the same text that C.I. Scofield selected to preach D.L. Moody's funeral. Never forget: Eleazar's (which means, God is helper) "Sword" is a type of every believer's Scriptures and service. (Eph. 6:17) Friend, you and I (those of us that are saved) need to understand the reason why we must not let loose of our "Sword!" There are three reasons why I reject dropping my weapon of spiritual warfare in this day and hour. (All found in II Samuel chapter 23) I. THE BRETHREN BEHIND ME. A reason why I reject dropping my "Sword" in the not so distant future is because the brethren behind me. (verse 9) The "stage" of Scripture seems to suggest that the men of Israel had moved back, but Eleazar wouldn't budge for a moment. The fact that others fall out, fall away and fall off, only should cause us to FORGE ON, walking and working for Christ! (John 6:66) The brethren behind me! II. THE BATTLE BESIDE ME. A reason why I reject dropping my "Sword" in the not so distant future is because the battle beside me. (verse 10a) Eleazar was not back at the "H.Q" but out on the "Front Line". Successful service for God and good is always lived as a...SOLDIER! (II Timothy 2:3) The battle beside me! III. THE BLESSING BEFORE ME. A reason why I reject dropping my "Sword" in the not so distant future is because the blessings before me. (verse 10b) Eleazar stayed with it long enough to see the dust of battle settle, the spoils of the struggle at his feet and above all, THE SMILE OF GOD upon his success. Rewards only come to those who remain. So...burn the resignation letter and watch for the blessing. (Galatians 6:9) -The blessing before me!
