"WHEN SENSELESSNESS GETS SENSIBLE!"
Luke 15:17
And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
In the gospel of Luke chapter 15 we find the Lord Jesus Christ speaks of lost treasure.
This chapter could be effortlessly outlined like this:
I. The Lost Sheep. (verses 1-7)
II. The Lost Shekel. (verses 8-10)
III. The Lost Son. (verses 11-32)
It is while the physician Luke is dealing (under the direct inspiration of the Holy Spirit) with "The Lost Son" that a person witnesses "Mr. Idiot" takes off the dunce cap and "Dr. Intelligent" puts on the college cap and gown. (verse 17a)
A Bible student called this, "The school in the pigsty."
Friend, you and I (those of us that are saved) need to "come to ourselves" in the hog-pen so we can quickly make it back to the home-place!
There are three things that always happen when the foolish christian becomes wise. (All found in Luke 15)
I. YOU REMEMBER "THE FATHER" HAS A PROVISION.
A thing that always happens when the foolish christian becomes wise is they remember "the Father" has a provision. (verse 17b) If just the "hired servants" push away from the table before all the platters are empty, can you even imagine what the "sons and daughters" table looks like. God is so interested in taking care of His own that are in His will, that He will even send them "meals on wings!" (Please read I Kings 17:1-7) You remember "the Father" has a provision!"
II. YOU RECALL "THE FATHER" HAS A PARDON.
A thing that always happens when the foolish christian becomes wise is they recall "the Father" has a pardon. (verse 18) Whenever a christian really repents for their sin, stubbornness and straying ways you will easily find God's free and full forgiveness. In fact, the omniscient God will choose to have amnesia when it comes to the prodigal who has asked for a pardon! (Hebrews 8:12) You recall "the Father" has a pardon!
III. YOU RECOGNIZE "THE FATHER" HAS A PLACE.
A thing that always happens when the foolish christian becomes wise is they recall "the Father" has a place. (verse 19) If those that never committed a single sin could only be eligible to serve God, the pulpit, Sunday School class room, choir loft and Sunday School bus would be empty. God loves taking a "Swearing Simon" and making him a "Preaching Peter!" (Acts 2:14) You recognize "the Father" has a place!
