HOW YOU CAN KNOW THAT YOU ARE 100%...BACKSLIDDEN!
Luke 22:61
And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
In the gospel of Luke chapter 22 we find the Apostle Peter becomes the "Poster-Child" for all those who have ever willfully wandered away from the Lord Jesus Christ.
This chapter could be effortlessly outlined like this:
I. The Events Taking Place At The Passover. (verses 1-38)
II. The Events Taking Place On The Mount Of Olives. (verses 39-53)
III. The Events Taking Place In A Courtyard. (verses 54-71)
It is while the physician Luke is dealing (under the direct inspiration of the Holy Spirit) with "The Events Taking Place In A Courtyard" that a person sees the very scenario that a saint follows when they are straying. (verse 61)
The word "Backslide" means: To fall back into bad behavior.
Friend, you and I (those of us that are saved) can be unquestionably certain that we are out of fellowship with God!
There are three definite "slides" a believer goes down when they are backslidden.
I. WHEN YOU ARE DRIFTING.
A definite "slide" a believer goes down when they are backslidden is when they begin to drift. (verse 54b) The christian life can only be lived as one stays close to Christ. If you and I will stay intimate with the "anchor" of the Bible we won't have to worry about landing on the rocks. (Acts 27:29) When you are drifting!
II. WHEN YOU ARE DEFECTING.
A definite "slide" a believer goes down when they are backslidden is when they begin to defect. (verse 55) There is no more sorrowful scene then that of a child of God trying to fit in, around and with the children of the devil. If you don't stroll with the wicked, you never have to worry about sitting with the wicked. (Psalm 1:1) When you are defecting!
III. WHEN YOU ARE DENYING.
A definite "slide" a believer goes down when they are backslidden is when they begin to deny. (verse 59b & 60a) The statement, "I don't know Him!" can sometimes be translated into, "I am away from Him!" A believer may not be as bold to say what Peter said, but they do say the same thing when there is no evidence of God in their daily life. (Hebrews 13:13)
