"I'M NOT ONE BIT EMBARRASSED!"
Romans 1:16a
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ:
In the book of Romans chapter 1 we find the Apostle Paul ready for Rome.
This chapter could be effortlessly outlined like this:
I. Paul Presented His Credentials. (verses 1-7)
II. Paul Expressed His Concern. (verses 8-15)
III. Paul Affirmed His Confidence. (verses 16-17)
IV. Paul Notified Heaven's Condemnation. (verses 18-32)
It is while the Apostle Paul is dealing (under the direct inspiration of the Holy Spirit) with "Paul Affirmed His Confidence" that a person reads a heart-capturing ten word phrase. (verse 16)
The word "ashamed" means: Quite embarrassed.
Friend, you and I shouldn't be chagrined Christians!
There are three things the Apostle Paul was not ashamed about. (They are the same things I am not ashamed about either)
I. THE BIBLE THAT I READ.
I'm not one bit humiliated by the Bible that I read. (II Timothy 4:13) The Scriptures were so much a part of Brother Paul's life, that he wanted to be holding on to the Old Testament 'parchments' as he awaited certain martyrdom. For over 28 years I have not backed off on the inspired and preserved Book that I have carried to pulpits all across America. (Psalm 138:2) The Bible that I read!
II. THE BUNCH THAT I RUN WITH.
I'm not one bit humiliated by the bunch that I run with. (Acts 9:26) Before the ink was dry on Brother Paul's spiritual 'birth certificate' he was trying to get close to a much better group of people. I love the jersey that the team that I am on wears. It says in bold letters across the back, "FUNDAMENTALIST!!" (Titus 2:14) The bunch that I run with!
III. THE BATTLE SCARS THAT I RECEIVED.
I'm not one bit humiliated by the battle scars that I received. (Galatians 6:17) At any time Brother Paul could remove his shirt and show anyone how he had become the world's punching bag. Great servants of God are not sissies, but soldiers. After a quarter of a century in the ministry, I have been to the front line a few times, and it was not to go sightseeing. (II Timothy 3:12) The battle scars that I received!
